Blanca, belonging to the Ricote Valley, was one of the first places of cultivation lemons in Spain. In 1579, Pedro de Vega of this village traveled in mules’ train to Pastrana (Guadalajara) to sell in that town his lemons. A distance of 400 km!
The municipality of Blanca takes care for its own well-being and for that of the future generations. So it has taken measures to protecting its natural environment. The park called "el parque de las cuevas" has 100.000 m2. Walking there is an excellent way to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere of the slow movement of the Ricote Valley.
This old mansion is more than just a time capsule. It is a breathtaking and an intimate portrait of the lives of a family of the 19th Century dedicated to the culture of lemons. This type of old majestic buildings, witness of a glorious past, give us one of the most beautiful panoramic views of Blanca.
In the foreground in the distance we see a former granary in the Darrax hamlet exactly between the villages Abaran and Blanca. It is the only Moorish granary known in Spain. On the very top of the mountain this rectangular granary was divided into several areas where grain was stored.

Since centuries Blanca has been involved in the handmade manufacturing of carpets made from esparto. Esparto grass rugs are usually round or rectangular. The manufacturing is done by women, usually in teams of 2 or 3 women who talk and sing while they work; while their strong hands move with energy and precision.
